WHAT IS COSMETIC TATTOOING OR PERMANENT MAKEUP?
Cosmetic tattooing, also referred to as semi-permanent makeup or micropigmentation, is the process of implanting pigment or ink beneath the surface of the skin by means of tiny, sterile, disposable tattoo needles to produce the appearance of hair strokes, powder, or to enhance the natural features of the face such as eyebrows, lips and eyes by means of tattooing.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN COSMETIC TATTOOING AND TRADITIONAL BODY TATTOOING?
The purpose of cosmetic tattooing is to enhance the natural features of every unique client based on their anatomy, complexion, lifestyle etc. Cosmetic tattooing or permanent makeup is softer and more subtle, it is meant to be a natural-looking enhancement. Body tattooing use ink while cosmetic tattooing use pigments, which although are not that much different in composition, PMU pigments are designed to have a fade-out effect and gently fade over time. Fading is desired as it allows the artist to make changes to colour and shape over the years as client’s natural colouration and facial changes occur. Permanent makeup is ideally implemented on the upper layer of the dermis, not on the dermis layer as is the case with traditional body tattooing. Depth of pigment implementation varies from cosmetic tattooing to traditional body tattooing.

HOW LONG DOES COSMETIC TATTOOING LAST?
Cosmetic tattoo treatments will fade over time and may need to be retouched every 1-3 years. We will evaluate how your skin has processed the pigment at your second session and make any changes necessary. Multiple sessions are normal for cosmetic tattoo procedures, with each new procedure requiring a minimum of 2 visits. Your second session can be booked no sooner than 6-8 weeks after the initial appointment and it is included in the initial cost of the procedure.

HOW WILL I LOOK IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE PROCEDURE?
Your semi-permanent makeup, cosmetic tattooing or permanent makeup will appear darker, bolder and more intense than expected for the first few days. This will gradually lighten during the healing process. Minimal redness and swelling is to be expected especially for sensitive skin types.

WHAT SHOULD I KNOW ABOUT LONG-TERM CARE?
Sunscreen should be applied daily and reapplied throughout the day as per label instructions. Sunscreen usage should start after the initial healing period, or a minimum of 4 weeks after the PMU procedure. As with any tattoo, sun exposure will make the colour fade faster. Fading speed depends on your skin type, lifestyle, sun exposure etc. PLEASE DO NOT SKIP THIS STEP.
